Fighting Parkinson's: How exercise can slow the progression
April is Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month, and we thought it would be fun to send one of our attorneys, Amber Thailing, to the Parkinson's Exercise and Wellness Center (PEWC), where she was able to join her father in his favorite Rock Steady boxing class.
For those of you who don't know, the Parkinson's Exercise and Wellness Center is the first facility in Kansas City to have specialized exercises for people who have been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. Their website states:
The Parkinson’s Exercise and Wellness Center, a unique 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, provides an array of exercise programs that target motor and nonmotor skills, balance, speech, and sensory function to improve the lives of people with Parkinson’s Disease. Based in the Kansas City area, the PEWC offers classes in Rock Steady Boxing, PWR! Moves, Parkinson’s—Art of Expression, Dance, Yoga, and Mat Pilates. At the PEWC, you will find an experienced staff who will guide you in your fight against Parkinson’s Disease and a tight-knit community ready to embrace and support you.
After her class, Amber sat down with Sarrisa Curry from the group to find out more about the Center. If you are interested in joining a class, please visit their website at www.thepewc.org or call them at (913) 276-4665.
