Estate Planning and the Coronavirus
We’ve all been inundated with information about the Coronavirus…how it’s likely to spread and the steps we need to take to protect ourselves and our loved ones.
We’ve all been told to:
*wash our hands frequently;
*avoid touching our eyes, nose and mouth;
*cover our cough or sneeze with a tissue; and
*gather two weeks of supplies in case we need to quarantine.
This is all good information, but sometimes information is not enough. And you learn that quickly in a busy Elder Law Firm.
Already this week we have had several calls from clients and non-clients concerned about what could happen if they get the Coronavirus and they don’t have the right legal documents (Powers of Attorney for finances and healthcare, Wills and Trusts) in place. Some of these calls came from family members whose loved one is in a care center on lock-down.
Fortunately, we've been able to work with families and these care centers, and with the help of staff and technology, we have successfully been able to establish estate plans for their loved ones (even those in care centers on lock-down).
Making sure you are covered…covering the cough and sneeze…and making sure your legal documents cover you…is the first step to peace of mind.
If you have done your documents, chances are you’re in great shape. If you don’t have Powers of Attorney in place, now would be a great time to get powerful Financial and Healthcare Powers of Attorneys in place.
